BMC and Red Bull unveil a bike after 3 years of wind tunnel research

Teams have limited access rights to wind tunnels to develop their Formula 1 cars. However, in order to not lose their investment and make their state-of-the-art wind tunnel profitable, most teams use it for research purposes towards other projects. This is one of them that Red Bull unveils with a nearly 4-year collaboration with BMC, a renowned Swiss racing bicycle brand.

Announced as the most aerodynamic and fastest bicycle ever designed, Red Bull used its knowledge of fluid mechanics and its wind tunnel to develop this bike. Fabian Cancellara was one of the consultants and testers of the bike, providing his feedback after several years as a professional cyclist and several victories in the Tour de France, among others.

The first test of the bike in competition will be this weekend at the Ironman St George in Utah. The bike will be assigned to Patrik Nilsson.

David Zurcher, the CEO of BMC Switzerland, had set as his objective to create the fastest bicycle in the world.
