Perez didn’t slow down enough under the yellow flag

The regulation requires drivers to significantly slow down when a yellow flag is waved in their sector. Sergio Perez, while on a fast lap during qualifying in Melbourne, did not slow down enough.

In violation of the sporting regulations of the FIA, article 2.5.5.b, paragraph H and the pre-Grand Prix commissioners’ notes, the Red Bull driver had to explain himself before the commissioners.

« As Perez approached turn 11, a single yellow flag was waved for the car blocked in the escape road [Russell]. Perez was informed by his radio and by the flag at the edge of the track.
» According to the telemetry «, Perez slowed down 70 meters earlier and braked 50 meters earlier than his previous lap. The passing speed was 14 km/h slower and therefore the stewards do not impose any penalty.

The commissioners believe here that the effort was made by the driver without therefore sanctioning him. Although slowing down by 14km/h does not really show a significant effort.
