Leclerc’s bad joke on the radio about one lap away from his victory
Charles Leclerc led the Bahrain Grand Prix almost from start to finish. Confident in the reliability of his car until the last few laps, he even made a joke to his engineers over the radio. Enough to give the pit wall some cold sweats.
As Charles Leclerc is one lap away from the finish and sees his victory approaching in this first Grand Prix of the season, he says over the radio: “There is something strange with the engine!” / “Il y a quelque chose d’étrange avec le moteur!”
When you know that he is then one step away from victory and potentially achieving a double with Ferrari, his team on the pit wall undoubtedly had their first big scare of the season.
The Monegasque driver heard his engineer respond “Copy / Received” before saying “No, I’m joking”.
This joke is undoubtedly a reference to the 2019 season and its power issue 15 laps before the finish on the same Sakhir circuit.
