F1 drivers are public figures and quite influential on social media. While Ukraine has been invaded by Russia for several weeks now and the consequences are being felt in F1, with major changes happening at Haas and the requirement for Russian drivers to compete under a neutral flag, the drivers have gathered in Bahrain on the track to promote a message of peace.
Only 18 drivers from the 2022 grid were present for this impromptu photo shoot. Lewis Hamilton is not in the picture, and the 20th driver, who will replace Mazepin at Haas this season, has not been officially announced yet. Fittipaldi, who is filling in for him during the three-day testing, is also not in the photo.
The GPDA, Grand Prix Driver Association, is an association managed by the drivers themselves which allows them to strengthen their voices when it comes to dealing with institutions such as the FIA or the FOM, or even to convey a message of solidarity as seen here.
