Genii sells its remaining shares of Alpine F1 to Renault

Genii Capital had acquired 75% of the shares of Renault F1 at the end of 2009. Gérard Lopez then took over the French team by appointing Eric Bouillier as team principal.

Renault, in a press release, announced that it has bought the shares that were still owned by Genii Capital of the F1 team. The amount of the transaction has not been disclosed.

This amicable transaction marks the end of seven years of collaboration, which began with Renault Group’s return to Formula One through the acquisition of the team to the extent of 90% at the end of 2015, explains the press release.

Renault had indeed acquired the Enstone team from Genii Capital at the end of 2015, holding 90% of the shares. Genii still retained 10% of the shares. So it has been 12 years that Genii has been more or less connected to Enstone, witnessing the team transition from Lotus to Renault and then to Alpine since 2021.

As a result, the Genii logo will no longer appear on the race cars for the 2022 season.

It should be noted that the Enstone factory is linked to Alpine Racing Limited, whereas Viry-Chatillon and the Renault engine factory are separate entities. Renault already owns Viry-Chatillon and has just completed the total acquisition of Enstone.
