Otmar Szafnauer officially appointed Director of Alpine F1
Otmar Szafnauer is finally officially appointed as the head of the Alpine F1 Team. The former team principal of Aston Martin is one of the many changes announced by Laurent Rossi for this 2022 season.
In November, the reorganization of Alpine had already begun with the departure of Alain Prost and Marcin Budkowski. A few weeks later, Laurent Rossi announced the arrival of Pat Fry and Matt Harman in a new technical organization for Alpine F1.
Szafnauer, who left Aston Martin at the end of last year, was logically suggested for the position of Alpine F1 Team Principal, but nothing had been confirmed yet. With the presentation of the F1 A522 approaching, it is logical that Alpine announces its top management.
Bruno Famin is new at Alpine. He is appointed as the Head of the Viry-Chatillon subsidiary (Alpine Racing) and becomes responsible for engine development. He was previously at the FIA, serving as the Secretary General for sports.
Davide Brivio, who was then the director of the Alpine F1 team after Cyril Abitboul’s departure, becomes the Director of Development of Alpine Racing in order to find synergies with endurance racing or other motorsports.
Szafnauer, Famin and Davide will all three be members of the executive committee of Alpine, led by Laurent Rossi, CEO of the Alpine car manufacturer within the Renault group.
With 23 years of experience in F1, Otmar Szafnauer is enthusiastic about this new role. He says, “I am very happy to join Alpine and ready to get to work with all my colleagues to succeed in this challenge that awaits us and to fight to win the championship in 100 races. I am focused on Bahrain. Alpine is one of the three generalist constructors in F1 and is now equipped to achieve its ambitions. I am excited to start this experience.”
With the arrival of Pat Fry as Technical Director, Alpine’s management is completely different from previous years.
