Saudi Arabia Grand Prix – Verstappen: “I wanted to let Lewis pass, but we didn’t understand each other”
After a mistake by the Dutchman in qualifying and a fairly tense race for all kinds of situations, the Dutchman once again finished second after his championship rival.
Max Verstappen had a good chance of winning the race in Jeddah, but the confusion with Hamilton at the end of the race, a five-second penalty, and worn tires again prevented the Dutchman from reaching the top step of the podium.
Translate: « The race turned out to be quite eventful, a lot of things happened, with which I don’t completely agree, but that’s how it is. On the track, I tried to do everything, but I wasn’t sure if the tires would hold up until the finish line. Anyway, I still finished second.
« The incident with Lewis? I slowed down to let him pass. I was on the right, but he didn’t want to overtake me and we collided. I really don’t understand exactly what happened.
Hamilton and Verstappen now have the same number of points, but Max has remained the championship leader due to more wins. The fate of the championship title will be decided in a week in Abu Dhabi.
