Vettel organized a race dedicated to women in Saudi Arabia

In a way similar to Lewis Hamilton, who is very active in the fight against racism (notably through the Black Lives Matter movement), Sebastian Vettel distinguished himself this season in his commitment to addressing inequalities.

The four-time world champion is taking advantage of his presence in Saudi Arabia to better understand certain situations, in particular, the treatment of women in the country. The idea then came to him to organize a karting race exclusively for women. They have only been allowed to drive for a few years in the country.

« Clearly, there is a lot of discussion about our presence here, especially regarding human rights,” Sebastian Vettel told Autosport. « However, I want to try to focus on the positive, so I organized my own karting event under the hashtag #raceforwomen. I think a group of seven or eight girls were on the track.

The Aston Martin driver invited women to a very diverse experience, ranging from those who have already raced to those who do not have a driver’s license. He reflects on this experience.

We organized a beautiful event just for them and I tried to share with them my experiences in life and on the track to develop, together, their confidence. I must say that I was inspired by their stories, their backgrounds, and the positive way the country is changing.

« If we look at the situation through a western or European prism, there are still many things to improve and resolve, but it is also true that some things are changing here and it makes a huge difference. As for these women, I think it was important for me to get to know them. It was a memorable and inspiring day and a great way to start the weekend,” he concluded.
