Giovinazzi is bitter after being fired from Alfa Romeo

After three years of good and loyal services, the axe has fallen for Antonio Giovinazzi. As expected, Alfa Romeo has indeed finalized its duo for 2022 on November 16, and unsurprisingly, the Italian has not been retained for this role.

The number 99, who will quickly bounce back at Dragon Penske in Formula E, did not appreciate the news very much and did not hesitate to share his opinion on his non-renewal on social media. « What matters in Formula 1 is talent, technique, risk, and speed. But this sport can be cruel when money dictates the rules. I believe in the small and big victories achieved on one’s own merit » before adding on his Instagram photo showing him as a child: « it was my first photo in an F1 car, the last photo has not been taken yet. »

Indeed, paid drivers are flourishing in Formula 1, and in motorsport in general, in recent years but will Giovinazzi really be missed by Alfa Romeo? In any case, the Italian has never had the image of a formidable force.

Not counting his few outings in 2017 (which significantly harmed him), the future Formula E driver is struggling to keep up with an aging Räikkönen. It is not uncommon to see Giovinazzi outpace his veteran teammate during qualifying, but how many times has he finished behind, and significantly behind, in the race? Since 2019, Kimi Räikkönen has scored 57 points for Alfa Romeo (and consistently competes in races), while Antonio Giovinazzi has only scored 19 points and has given the impression of being a rather invisible driver.

There are three more Grand Prix for the native of Martina Franca to leave Formula 1 with his head held high and to help his team, as much as possible, to secure eighth place currently held by Williams since the Hungarian round.
