The Alfa Romeo drivers hope for a good weekend in Mexico
After two eleventh places in a row, the Alfa Romeo team hopes, once again, to break into the Top 10, which has been eluding the team since the Russian Grand Prix.
Weekends follow each other and look alike for the team led by Frédéric Vasseur. After coming very close to scoring points in the last two races (and in most of the events this season), the Alfa Romeo drivers hope to see their work rewarded in Mexico.
Antonio Giovinazzi, who is still on the hot seat, is happy to race in Mexico. “It’s really nice to be back here, it’s one of the races we had to miss last year,” he said, smiling to the F1 journalists’ microphone on Thursday. “The circuit is awesome here, and the atmosphere is too. It feels like being in Italy.”
Number 99 is aiming for a good result this weekend. I have finished eleventh several times, it is one of the worst positions as it places us just outside the points. We will see how the car behaves with the altitude, with the long straight line and in the slow corners. I hope we will have a good Grand Prix here and that we will score some points.
Kimi Räikkönen, who has two podiums to his name here (in 2017 and 2018), remains cautious about Alfa Romeo’s chances of doing well in Mexico. We will see how it goes on Sunday. The car will behave differently at altitude so the importance will be to start with good settings and we will see where we stand. Points are possible to achieve, we will try in any case.
