Giovinazzi is underrated according to David Coulthard
Coulthard defended Giovinazzi, whose future in F1 hangs by a thread. According to him, the Italian is not recognized enough by the paddock.
While the future of Antonio Giovinazzi is still unknown, the Alfa Romeo driver has found an ally in David Coulthard. The Scot believes that the young Italian’s speed is not highlighted enough.
“Antonio is a quality pilot,” he declared to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “In my opinion, he has the speed and intelligence, but it’s always tricky when you are in a team like Alfa Romeo.”
The former driver believes that Giovinazzi deserves to continue his journey in Formula 1, particularly in comparison to his performances against Kimi Räikkönen, even though the general impression is that the Italian struggles in races compared to his illustrious teammate who no longer has the speed of his younger years. “I think Kimi is a fast driver and my opinion is that people do not pay enough attention to Antonio when he is slightly ahead of Räikkönen. He has a few tenths of a second advantage over him in qualifications. You know, I didn’t often manage to be ahead of Kimi when we were teammates. So I hope that Antonio will continue where he is, I’m sure he can do well alongside Bottas,” concluded David Coulthard.
