Williams will not participate in the end-of-season tests in Abu Dhabi
Without a mule at his disposal, Williams will not be able to participate in the Abu Dhabi tests that will serve as preparation for the 2022 season.
At the end of the season, two days of private testing will be reserved for rookies at the Yas Marina circuit. Teams will seize this opportunity to field mules to test the 18-inch tires that will be used from 2022 onwards. All teams, except for Williams.
« We will not do anything, unfortunately,” said Dave Robson, the team’s performance manager, to Motorsport.com. « If I understand correctly, you can’t drive without a spare car. Since we don’t have one, we won’t be present,” he added ».
Robson points out the lack of resources in the team at the time when the mules were supposed to be engaged. We know that the mule would have been beneficial but at the time when we had to engage in the design of the latter, we did not have the necessary resources. Now we can’t do anything about it, this decision was made a long time ago. We will probably start the winter tests being a bit behind next year but I hope we can quickly catch up if the car proves to be correct.
