Giovinazzi still unclear about 2022
As the end of the season approaches, Antonio Giovinazzi still does not know what his future holds. Despite this difficult situation, the Italian prefers to remain focused on the remaining races.
Will Giovinazzi be present at Alfa Romeo alongside Valtteri Bottas in 2022? The man in question himself still doesn’t know, but prefers not to think about it. The native of Martina Franca simply wishes to conclude his current season in the best possible way.
« Honestly, I think the team did not achieve the results it deserved this season. Personally, I only brought back one point so my goal is to bring back as many as possible in the last six races » declared Giovinazzi to journalist Will Buxton, this Thursday.
Speaking of results, the Italian may have caused his team to miss out on the chance to bring back even a single point from Turkey. Antonio indeed disobeyed Alfa Romeo’s instructions to place Räikkönen ahead, the latter being much faster towards the end of the race. « It’s a problem that happens and it may have also been the case in the past,” affirms Giovinazzi. « But honestly, I don’t like to talk about this kind of thing here, I just want to discuss it with the team internally. Everything is fine now and that’s the most important thing ».”
The Alfa Romeo driver also kept things very brief regarding his future in the top category of motorsport and prefers not to comment on the rumor of Sauber being bought by Michael Andretti. “I’ve said it before, my future is no longer in my hands. I just want to have as much fun as possible in the last races of the season, and we’ll see what happens. Regarding Andretti, you should ask Fred Vasseur about that. Of course, he is a very big name, but I don’t know more. Like I told you, it’s no longer in my hands.”
