Grosjean’s test with Mercedes postponed to an unknown date
Romain Grosjean's test with Mercedes continues to be a hot topic on the web. Originally scheduled to take place during the French F1 Grand Prix, Mercedes announced that it will finally be postponed to a later date during the summer due to logistical reasons.
Romain Grosjean left F1 abruptly last year, following a serious accident in Bahrain.
Mercedes, and specifically Toto Wolff, had shown generosity by offering Grosjean a final lap in Formula 1 if no other team gave him the opportunity.
At the beginning of the season, it was planned that Romain Grosjean would take part in a one-day test with a 2018 world champion Mercedes during the 2021 French Grand Prix and at a show in front of the French public with a few laps.
The French Grand Prix having been rescheduled a week earlier due to the cancellation of the Turkish Grand Prix, the test was initially maintained on the same date. Grosjean could not drive in front of the French crowd but could hope to drive the Mercedes for a whole day.
Finally, Mercedes announced yesterday that this test, which was supposed to take place next week, was delayed for logistical reasons due to the quarantines imposed by the French State because of the risks of COVID-19.
The German team did not specify the date of this test but confirmed that it was not canceled, simply postponed. It will have to take place during the summer, on a weekend when Romain Grosjean is not racing in Indycar, for example this weekend. The French driver has indeed turned to Indycar this season.
Romain Grosjean joked on social media that it would allow him to have the best optimizations on the car.
