In Baku, Alonso signs his best result since returning to F1
After a complicated start to the Grand Prix and a qualification in Q3 but in 8th position, Fernando Alonso achieved his best result since his return to Formula 1 thanks to the 6th place obtained in the last laps of the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Qualified 9th but started from 8th place following Norris’ penalty, the Spanish driver Fernando Alonso had a poor start and had to quickly go through the pits to change his tires that were degrading too quickly.
While the red flag – caused by Max Verstappen’s crash – put him in 10th place, he managed to climb back up to 6th place in the last 3 laps by battling from the start.
« I am happy for the team that we scored good points this weekend. It is well deserved because it was a very challenging weekend. The final laps were really fun and we were pushing to the maximum and being aggressive to climb back up.
This weekend was rather good for us but we lacked a bit of pace during the race. We need to look at that but I am happy today. concludes the Spanish driver, a two-time world champion with Renault.
