Monaco Grand Prix – Alonso stuck outside of the points
The Alpine driver, Fernando Alonso, finally finishes in thirteenth position, outside the points for the third time in five races. Another tough blow.
The double world champion Spaniard, Fernando Alonso, had a rough start to the weekend, being eliminated in Q3, in seventeenth position, during the qualifications. This session being crucial for the race result, the Spaniard could not reach the points zone despite improving by four places compared to his grid position, finishing in fourteenth place. However, the Spaniard is once again beaten this weekend by his teammate, Esteban Ocon. Alonso has always finished behind the Frenchman in the race during the first five Grand Prix of the season.
This is not a good weekend for the French team, which only scores two points thanks to Esteban Ocon’s ninth place. They were dominated by their direct competitors, AlphaTauri and Aston Martin, who overall had a good Grand Prix, notably Lawrence Stroll’s team, credited with fourteen points. Alpine therefore drops to seventh place in the constructors’ standings.
constructors’ championship. Fernando Alonso does not yet have the necessary impact to enable the French team to aim higher, having earned only five small points in five Grand Prix races. A performance that is unfamiliar to him, especially considering that his teammate has more than double his score, with twelve points. Alonso knows that both he and the team need to raise their level in preparation for the upcoming events.
« It’s a disappointing weekend as we score few points. We were hoping for more as a team. » declared the Spaniard this Sunday evening in Monaco.”
My race wasn’t too bad since I started seventeenth and finished thirteenth by overtaking two cars on the first lap by taking some risks. Our second stint was quite long with the soft tires, but they seemed to work rather well. I am satisfied with the race, but it’s always difficult starting from so far back in Monaco. We need to make progress ahead of Baku.
« We hoped for more as a team »
We are once again expecting a wake-up call from the double Spanish world champion for the next Grand Prix. So join us from June 4th to 6th in Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, for perhaps the comeback of the fiery Fernando Alonso.
