Monaco Grand Prix – Gasly ahead of Hamilton
Pierre Gasly had an excellent qualifying session and will start from 6th position on the grid for the Monaco Grand Prix! That's one place ahead of world champion Lewis Hamilton.
In a capricious AlphaTauri since the start of the season, and in which he didn’t necessarily feel comfortable this weekend, Pierre Gasly showed his talent by making it to Q3, leaving his teammate Yuki Tsunoda in Q1. He had the 6th best time before the red flag caused by poleman Charles Leclerc.

Very pleased with this result, after 2 difficult qualifying sessions in Spain and Portugal, Gasly reacted, all smiling, to Canal+’s microphone: “I made a great lap on a tricky track. It wasn’t easy during practice, but we changed things by adjusting the settings before qualifying, and it paid off.”
« It is very good news to start in front of Hamilton. »
The Norman is already looking ahead to the race: « Qualifying plays a very important role in Monaco, where there is little opportunity for overtaking. It’s great news to start in front of Hamilton. We will have to do our best to have a good race with a solid strategy. »
« Very happy for Leclerc! »
Interrogated about his longtime friend, Charles Leclerc, who clinched pole position in his home Grand Prix, Gasly congratulates him: « Congratulations to Charles, I am very happy for him. He achieves pole position at his place, it must be truly incredible and well deserved given Ferrari’s performance since the beginning of the weekend. I hope he can convert it on Sunday. »
The French driver from AlphaTauri once again has the opportunity to score big points, something that his team has been missing since the beginning of the season, despite a very performing car, on paper.
