Monaco Grand Prix – Ferrari the favorite?
The Ferrari team shined this Thursday in Monaco by taking the top two spots in Free Practice 2.
A legendary team seems to want to shine in the midst of the bling-bling of the Principality, and that team is simply Scuderia Ferrari. The Italian team is fighting for third place in the constructors’ championship, neck and neck with McLaren. A true rebirth for the team with the prancing horse after a catastrophic 2020 season.
During the first Free Practice session, Charles Leclerc’s car experienced a gearbox issue, forcing him to stop after only 4 laps. However, it was his teammate, Carlos Sainz, who took the lead for his team, securing the second position in this session behind Sergio Perez. So far, this is the best result for the Spanish driver under Ferrari colors in Free Practice.
During the second Free Practice session, the lights were green for Charles Leclerc’s car, allowing him to hit the track again. The local driver gave his best to not disappoint at home and secured the top spot in this second Free Practice session, completing 30 laps this time. Just behind him, we find the other Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, being just over a tenth behind his teammate.
The legendary Ferrari team seems to be in good shape for this Monaco Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc, being Monegasque, is keen to achieve a good performance on this circuit, which, as he often says, was his bus route to school. On the other hand, Carlos Sainz has been remarkably consistent on this first day in Monaco and seems to be in perfect harmony with his car.
However, the results of the Free Practices should always be taken with a grain of salt, it remains to be seen if the Scuderia will repeat its good performances on Saturday for the qualifications.
