Another halo victory at Imola protects Bottas

The halo has been the driver's head protection appendage on F1 cars for several years now. At the last Grand Prix in Imola, it once again proved its worth. The proof is in this accident reconstruction.

Another halo victory at Imola protects Bottas

During the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, an accident interrupted the Grand Prix for several minutes. While the track was drying out, Bottas and Russell had just put on slick tires when they collided during an overtaking attempt.

Without blaming one or the other, it is interesting to note once again, especially after the terrible crash of Romain Grosjean in Bahrain at the end of 2020, the halo contributes to protecting the driver.

As seen in the illustration taken from the reconstruction video available below, the tire and the front left suspension of Russell’s Williams clearly come into contact with the side of the Mercedes, especially the halo.

This protective barrier can withstand substantial loads and helps protect the driver from debris such as Formula 1 tires, as well as tires from walls located along the track. It has particularly proven its resistance against rails in Bahrain.
