Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: Tsunoda destroys his F1 car during qualifying

After a promising first Grand Prix from the Japanese rookie, Yuki Tsunoda, his Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola takes a completely different turn. The AlphaTauri driver, who made a mistake during practice already this Friday, ended up in the tire barrier this Saturday at the start of qualifying. His AlphaTauri is heavily damaged – even the gearbox has become detached from the engine.

Tsunoda made a mistake at the entry of the corner, spinning and hitting the tire barrier at the back. The accident caused a red flag and the Q1 session to be stopped for a few minutes.

« It was a good turn for me… I was too fast at the entry of the corner. I generally don’t have many regrets, but I was attacking too much. It’s not ideal. I owe apologies to the team because the car was good and I have to make up for it tomorrow. The Japanese driver confided to Laurent Dupin on Canal+.
