McLaren has named the 2021 F1 car MCL35M, thus keeping the same diminutive as the 2020 car. The M is added to distinguish the MCL35, likely for the Mercedes engine now powering the Woking car.
Note that McLaren was able to start the engine of its new F1 car. It’s the first time since 2014 that the team will be powered by Mercedes. So, Renault, which powered the Woking team since 2018 after three years with Honda, is out.
Mercedes has previously powered McLaren, of course, with more or less success. From 1995 to 2014, the team won only one drivers’ title in 1998 with Mika Hakkinen.
The launch of the MCL35M is expected to take place live from the McLaren factory in Woking. It is scheduled for 6 PM French time.
