Hamilton: Happy to conclude this season, despite the fatigue
Lewis Hamilton, back on the paddock after missing a Grand Prix in Sakhir due to Covid-19, returned to the podium after a physically exhausting race.
The boss was back this weekend, and despite apparent fatigue in his times, Lewis Hamilton concluded his season with another podium in Abu Dhabi.
He reflects on his challenging weekend: « It’s not necessarily the step I wish to climb, but considering the last few weeks I’ve had, contracting the virus and not being at 100%, I am happy. It was a very tough race for me physically, unlike the rest of the season where I felt very fit ».
The seven-time world champion still puts things into perspective: « The positive side is that I didn’t think I would be in Abu Dhabi a week ago, so I am grateful to be healthy, and I look forward to recovering even more in the coming weeks to return to my level for next season. »
Hamilton also wanted to acknowledge his team: “I want to thank my team for their undeniable support, it’s great to give back to them by ending this season with a podium.”
Author of his 165th podium in Formula 1, Hamilton finished by congratulating Red Bull: « Red Bull was unreachable for us today, they did a very good job. Max (Verstappen) in winning the race but also Alex (Albon) for putting pressure on us throughout the race. I hope that in 2022, and with the new regulations, the cars will be able to follow each other and allow us to have more fun races. »
