Official: No postponement of the Vietnam Grand Prix despite the Coronavirus

While the Chinese Grand Prix has been postponed to a later date yet to be determined, Vietnam is committed to hosting its first Grand Prix.

The race promoter, Le Ngoc Chi, claims that the race will indeed take place as planned and with the support of the Vietnamese government. This is confirmed by the deputy director of Hanoi’s tourism department, Tran Trung Hieu: The Grand Prix will neither be postponed nor delayed. Although it is a sporting competition, it has a very significant impact on tourism in Vietnam.

The government believes it has the situation under control; however, a cancellation remains possible if the virus spreads in the country.

« We are monitoring the situation day by day and will inform the fans through the media if there is a change, » adds Le Ngoc Chi.

This race should be the 3rd event of the 2020 F1 World Championship, which will start on March 15 in Australia.

The organization of the Grand Prix in Vietnam is part of F1 and Liberty Media’s desire to establish a stronger presence in Asia. Despite the success of the Singapore Grand Prix, Formula 1 and motorsports in general remain not widely followed or practiced in Asia.
