Räikkönen also penalized for gearbox and engine change
Following his off-track excursion during qualifying, Kimi Räikkönen has just lost his tenth place on the starting grid for the Italian Grand Prix, which will commence at 3:10 PM.
Kimi Räikkönen received a five-place grid penalty due to a gearbox change. The Finn went off the track at Parabolica during Q3, resulting in a rear impact against the tire wall.
The condition of his Alfa Romeo did not allow him to restart, which caused a red flag. This off-track excursion damaged the gearbox of his car, which had to be replaced for today’s race.
Räikkönen drops from 10th to 15th place on the starting grid. Antonio Giovinazzi, Kevin Magnussen, Daniil Kvyat, Romain Grosjean, and George Russell all move up one position on the grid.
Sergio Pérez’s penalty for engine change allows the Finnish driver to gain a position.
Update at 1:30 PM:
Kimi Räikkönen will finally start from the pit lane. He took advantage of his penalty to also change the engine.
