Starting in fifth position, Fernando Alonso quickly gained the upper hand on the McLaren drivers before capitalizing on Mark Webber's KERS issues to seize a valuable second place, allowing him to limit the damage in the drivers' championship and keep his title hopes alive. While they were ahead of Fernando Alonso on the grid, the Asturian ultimately overtook the two McLarens, which were not in harmony with the Soft tires during the first stint of the race. The pace improved after the single pit stop, where Lewis Hamilton had to change steering wheel, finishing 4th despite a constant attack, and after which Jenson was held up behind Romain Grosjean, on a different strategy, for a final 5th place.

The Red Bull-Vettel recital continues with the fourth consecutive victory for the Austrian-German association, the third while leading every lap. This success, which, apart from a few sparks flying from the RB8 of the double reigning World Champion towards the end of the race, was undisputed, marking the 150th Grand Prix win for a Renault engine. Mark Webber, on the other hand, faced KERS issues that prevented him from taking the second step of the podium, which went to Fernando Alonso.

Outside of the Top 10 in qualifying, the Force India team made a strong comeback in the race this Sunday. Nico Hülkenberg finished in the points in 8th place, while he was under threat from Romain Grosjean, and Paul di Resta also gained a few positions to finish 12th, his starting position being too disadvantageous to hope for better.

Until the 31st lap, the Williams cars were almost running together, with Bruno Senna ahead of Pastor Maldonado thanks to an opportunistic overtaking following an attack from Romain Grosjean. But the Venezuelan, after cutting in on Kamui Kobayashi after an overtaking maneuver, suffered a puncture that dropped him back into the pack and allowed his Brazilian teammate to take the last position within the points.

Anonymous in qualifying, the Mercedes drivers scarcely found the spotlight in the race, except at their own expense. Clipped by Jean-Eric Vergne in the first lap, Michael Schumacher quickly saw his hopes dashed by a puncture before retiring with a gearbox problem. As for Nico Rosberg, he endured more than he would have liked.
