In a session finally held on a dry track, but with autumnal temperatures, it was Fernando Alonso who set the fastest time, ahead of Kimi Räikkönen in the Lotus and Sergio Pérez in the Sauber. The Ferrari driver positions himself well before this afternoon's qualifying. The McLarens and the Red Bulls lagged behind, while Nico Rosberg's Mercedes experienced a technical issue at the start of the session.

Mark Webber will drop five places on the grid on Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps because the Red Bull team had to change the gearbox of the Australian's car.

The least we can say is that this Friday wasn't particularly productive for the different Formula 1 teams. At Lotus, Romain Grosjean didn't do much driving but took advantage of the rainy weather to spend time with his engineers, a good way to strengthen bonds.

From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards, the Airbus logo, a subsidiary of the aerospace group EADS, will be featured on the engine cover of the Caterham CT01 driven by Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov. A partnership likely heralding further collaborations to come between the European group and the various companies of Tony Fernandes.

And even if the circumstances were in his favor, the Frenchman is delighted to see his name at the top of the timesheet.
