Ferrari can be satisfied with its first day of testing at Suzuka. The 150th Italia seems to perform well on this challenging track where even the slightest mistake can be costly. However, the drivers are displaying measured optimism for the rest of the weekend. After all, it's only Friday.

The Force India team hoped to compete with the LRGP drivers this weekend at Suzuka, but that's not really the case. Additionally, they saw the Toro Rosso team get ahead of them, but even though Sutil, di Resta, and Hülkenberg all encountered significant tire wear issues, they believe they can improve this point by adjusting their settings for the qualifying session and the race.

Red Bull didn't dominate either of the day's sessions. Sebastian Vettel finished third twice. Mark Webber wasn't far behind, finishing 5th and 4th.

The Marussia Virgin Racing drivers seem to be more behind compared to their direct rivals, even though they appeared quite satisfied with this first day. Glock and d'Ambrosio, however, believe they can improve the settings of their cars for the qualifying session tomorrow and the race on Sunday.

The Toro Rosso team managed to bounce back after a disappointing Singapore Grand Prix. Both drivers were in the top 10 or very close during both practice sessions, and Buemi and Alguersuari seem confident for the rest of the weekend. Their STR6 is performing very well at Suzuka, and the new parts brought seem to be working well, now it's a matter of delivering tomorrow during qualifying.

Three drivers were on track for Team Lotus today. Karun Chandhok was at the wheel of Kovalainen's car during the first session. The Indian driver had not raced since Germany and was surprised by the progress the team had made since then. Heikki Kovalainen had no trouble getting accustomed to this demanding circuit, despite missing the first practice session.As often is the case, it was Jarno Trulli who encountered the most problems. Mechanical issues prevented him from getting the most out of the car in the morning, while electronic issues plagued him in the afternoon. Nonetheless, the Italian remains optimistic for the rest of the weekend.

The Sauber team has introduced numerous aerodynamic updates for the Japanese Grand Prix, and the team's two drivers had to test all these new parts during two free practice sessions. Everything went well, and Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez now hope to improve their setups to be more competitive tomorrow.

The Japanese weekend does not start in the best way for Williams. After a puncture in the first session, Rubens Barrichello committed hara-kiri in the second by losing control of his FW33 in the Degner corner. The outlook is not more positive for Pastor Maldonado, who was discovering the track and was stuck in the pits due to engine problems during the second session of the day.

The three drivers of the HRT team were able to take the wheel of a single-seater of the Spanish team this morning during the free practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix. But there was no miracle for them, they are not up to speed. Vitantonio Liuzzi even encountered a problem with his car, allowing him to cover only two laps, so it's not an ideal start to the weekend for him.

Mercedes GP begins its weekend calmly. The German team focused on the setup of its car for the continuation of the event. Michael Schumacher thinks that the MGPW02 should allow him to qualify in the top 10 around the 7th place as in the recent GPs. Nico Rosberg also believes that the team has worked well in preparation for both the qualifying sessions and the race.

On soft tires, the 2009 world champion confirms his current form and his team's strong performance on the Suzuka circuit by once again setting the fastest time, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel. Conversely, it was a bad day for Williams, whose two drivers finished their session before the others.

At the end of a studious session, the McLaren drivers showed their strength on hard tires while Sebastian Vettel made a splash negotiating the 130R with the rear wing wide open. Unfortunately, the German ended his session in the tires after a trip into the gravel at the exit of Degner 1. Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber, in 4th and 5th respectively, were ahead of the surprising Toro Rosso of Jaime Alguersuari.

The weight is the enemy of performance in Formula 1, indeed, the heavier a single-seater, the slower it will be. Each component is therefore designed to be as strong and as light as possible, which has allowed F1 to be a pioneer in certain technologies. But the search for minimal weight also applies to the drivers.

Jenson Button has signed a new contract with the McLaren Mercedes team for several years. But the British driver, world champion in 2009 with Brawn GP, stated that he still wants to race for several more years and nothing indicates that he will necessarily end his career at McLaren.
