Ferrari can be satisfied with its first day of testing at Suzuka. The 150th Italia seems to perform well on this challenging track where even the slightest mistake can be costly. However, the drivers are displaying measured optimism for the rest of the weekend. After all, it's only Friday.

The Force India team hoped to compete with the LRGP drivers this weekend at Suzuka, but that's not really the case. The Toro Rosso team managed to bounce back after a disappointing Singapore Grand Prix. Both drivers were in the top 10 or very close during both practice sessions, and Buemi and Alguersuari seem confident for the rest of the weekend. Three drivers were on track for Team Lotus today. Karun Chandhok was at the wheel of Kovalainen's car during the first session. The Indian driver had not raced since Germany and was surprised by the progress the team had made since then. Heikki Kovalainen had no trouble getting accustomed to this demanding circuit, despite missing the first practice session.As often is the case, it was Jarno Trulli who encountered the most problems. Mechanical issues prevented him from getting the most out of the car in the morning, while electronic issues plagued him in the afternoon. Nonetheless, the Italian remains optimistic for the rest of the weekend.

The Sauber team has introduced numerous aerodynamic updates for the Japanese Grand Prix, and the team's two drivers had to test all these new parts during two free practice sessions. Everything went well, and Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez now hope to improve their setups to be more competitive tomorrow.

After a puncture in the first session, Rubens Barrichello committed hara-kiri in the second by losing control of his FW33 in the Degner corner.
