After a very eventful start after which Hülkenberg, Alonso, Leclerc, then Räikkönen and Ricciardo retired, Vettel managed to take the advantage over Hamilton from the first lap. Subsequently, the German maintained a considerable gap, synonymous with victory at the end of the race.

The starting grid at Spa-Francorchamps has been reshuffled once again due to penalties related to power units. After Valtteri Bottas and Nico Hülkenberg, it's now Stoffel Vandoorne and Carlos Sainz's turn to suffer the same fate.

A controlled start allowed Nyck de Vries to lead his race without worry. Artem Markelov's offset strategy didn't work, but the Russian gained positions on the track. A significant wheelspin at the start cost George Russell the 2nd place, to the benefit of Sergio Sette Camara.
