On his first official day with Renault, Nico Hülkenberg experienced no particular problems and finished both sessions in the top 10. It was a more difficult day for Jolyon Palmer, who suffered a technical problem and then went off track.

Romain Grosjean put in a solid performance in the first two free practice sessions of the season, setting the 8th fastest time each time. On the other side of the garage, Kevin Magnussen experienced a few technical difficulties and didn't get to do many laps.
