Kubica will undergo another operation today

Contrary to what Renault announced a few days ago, Robert Kubica will undergo another surgery on his elbow this Saturday.

« Professor Luigi Celli is available on Saturday for a surgical intervention aimed at improving the functionality of the elbow for rehabilitation, » announced Friday the head of communication at the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra, where Kubica has been receiving treatment and rehabilitation since his accident.

The state of Kubica’s health is otherwise satisfactory, both from a clinical and general standpoint. He concludes. His doctor also confirms this at Lotus Renault GP. On Tuesday, Dr. Riccardo Ceccarelli indeed provided updates on Kubica’s health and recovery.

It is getting better day by day. His physical and psychological recovery is encouraging, and the doctors at Pietra Ligure Hospital are surprised at the speed with which he is recovering from everything. Pain, movement, scars, everything is improving each day. he confirms. As a reminder, the Pole had a road exit during a rally in Italy in February. The Skoda S2000 hit the metal safety barrier at the only place on the road where it was split in two. The car then crashed full force into the barrier, allowing it to enter through the radiator and pass right through the cockpit…

Should he stay longer in Pietra Ligure?

«For now, he must stay in the hospital, but we do not yet know how long. We have decided to remain in Pietra Ligure because a whole medical team is taking care of him and he is receiving first-class care. There are very reputable physiotherapists for his type of injuries. They work with him every day for several hours. Also, for the moment, the best thing for Robert is to stay where he is. On his behalf, I would like to extend a big thank you to all the hospital’s medical staff for their excellent work.»

The most serious injury was to his right arm and hand, but he is moving his wrist and fingers. Which is positive.

What is his psychological state?

«After such a trauma, the risks of depression exist when you discover the extent of the injuries. Initially, his psychological balance was unstable. But it only lasted a few days. After that sadness, we observed a good reaction. Robert Kubica is mentally very strong, and now his mindset has become very positive again. His goal is to put all his strength into rehabilitation and return to normal. The enormous support from fans and the F1 world are also very important to him. Many people have come to visit him, and it has been very helpful for his recovery.»

Do you have an idea when he will be able to return to competition?

No one can say it clearly. Even the surgeons don’t know. They say it takes several months for muscle tissues and nerves to regenerate, and it can vary from person to person. All we know is that the recovery will be long, without being able to specify how long. We observe progress day by day, but we cannot make a prognosis.
