Alguersuari responds on the track to rumors
The Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari delivered a superb European Grand Prix this Sunday by securing points for the 8th place, and this impressive performance dispels rumors of a driver change.
Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari is on an upward trajectory as in the last two Grand Prix (Canada and Europe) he finished in 8th place, bringing in 8 points over the two races. This is a boon for the Spaniard because the threat of a driver change looms over him. Test driver Daniel Ricciardo is indeed anticipated to take the wheel of one of the two cars of the small Scuderia next season. Alguersuari and Buemi know that at the slightest mistake, one of them could lose their seat in the Toro Rosso.
For the first mentioned, after his great performance this weekend, he believes his place is not in question as he confirms to BBC Sport. The last race speaks for him, where after an 18th place on the starting grid and thanks to a two-stop strategy, he managed to secure a points position for the second time in a row.
Even though he knows he still has difficulties during qualifying, especially with the tires. “I still struggle to get the most out of the tires during qualifying,” he admits. Moreover, his teammate is often ahead of him in qualifying. But he is increasingly mastering tire management during the race, which he considers one of the keys to his good results.
The other reason for this strong performance is the improvements made by the Toro Rosso team. The developments brought by the team also played a role; they worked well and partly explain my race pace, emphasizes Alguersuari.
He is even very optimistic because he thinks he can achieve a great performance in less than 15 days at the Grand Prix of Great Britain in Silverstone.
