Heidfeld Crash: 5-Place Penalty for Buemi in Hungary
Sebastien Buemi was under investigation after the German Grand Prix and his collision with Nick Heidfeld. The Swiss driver will ultimately receive a 5-place grid penalty for the next Grand Prix in Hungary next week.
The Toro Rosso driver was under pressure from Nick Heidfeld midway through the race. The German driver then moved to the left to overtake, then to the right to surprise. Sebastien Buemi continued on his trajectory, no longer seeing the Renault. Nick Heidfeld, who was faster, got alongside the Toro Rosso but found himself boxed in, going onto the grass and hitting the front wing.
The R31 slightly swerved before landing on the gravel and finishing its race without too much damage. More fear than harm for the German who ended his race in a hurry and anger.
The track marshals quickly declared Buemi’s car under investigation and decided the fate of the Swiss driver a few minutes ago. Sebastien Buemi will therefore be penalized with a 5-place grid drop for his next starting grid in Hungary next week.
This sanction comes as the Toro Rosso driver has just experienced a very unlucky weekend, being disqualified yesterday after the FIA found an incorrect fuel mixture in his car.
For his part, Nick Heidfeld was penalized a few minutes after the accident with a pit stop for an action committed at the start against Paul di Resta. The German, of course, could not serve this penalty, which will have no further consequences.
