Virgin will take its time before extending d’Ambrosio

On the sidelines of the last German Grand Prix, the Virgin team announced that the German driver Timo Glock will remain in a Virgin seat for the next three seasons. Virgin has secured its top driver, but the question remains as to who will take the wheel of the second car.

The performances of the Belgian do not work in his favor even though d’Ambrosio is completing his first season in the premier category. A sign of the doubt surrounding the Belgian’s future is the statement from the team’s general director, Graeme Lowdon: “We will consider it after the summer break, probably around the same period as last year.”

The team boss is nevertheless satisfied with his driver’s performances. Jérôme is doing a really great job, I think he has surprised a lot of people with his maturity in the races, especially considering that d’Ambrosio is discovering the discipline this season, and that’s why we cannot truly debate Jérôme’s performances at the moment. We will therefore wait until the end of the season to discuss his contract.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio knows what he needs to do to keep his place for next season and he will be able to showcase his talent this weekend in Hungary.
