New York in pole position to host a Grand Prix in 2013?
Formula One is set to make its return to the United States with the GP in Austin, but talks are already underway to make New York the city that could host this Grand Prix.
The Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone is adamant that the USA should host a second Grand Prix, and discussions are currently underway for F1 cars to race in Big Apple.
Even though for now the discussions are only at a preliminary stage between the different parties involved, namely the mayors concerned by the West New York and Weehawken project and a group of investors, there are already whispers that a Grand Prix could be held in 2013. The location is even known since the race could take place along the Hudson River with the New York City skyline as the backdrop.
The presence of a Grand Prix in New York would be beneficial for the residents of New York according to the mayors of West New York and Weehawken, even if, that being said, we must ensure that the financial benefits of the privilege of having a race in our two cities are equitably distributed and that the project will not require public money.
Equally important is the support from the New Jersey authorities, who through the governor’s spokesperson declared that the prospect of having Formula 1 in the state of New Jersey was exciting.
