Petrov is certain about his future with LRGP
Despite Bruno Senna's appointment as the main driver and the new sponsors brought by the Brazilian driver, Vitaly Petrov is not worried about his future with Lotus Renault GP.
Vitaly Petrov wanted to clarify the situation regarding his position as a main driver at Lotus Renault GP in 2012. Indeed, there are rumors that Bruno Senna might be made a main driver in his place next year if Robert Kubica returns.
« My contract is safe for next year, » declared the Russian driver to the Autosport.com site. It is true that the Brazilian driver’s goal is to secure a main seat next season at LRGP, well supported by his financial partners, and a return of Robert Kubica wouldn’t leave many possibilities. Especially since Bruno Senna made a notable impression during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.
Beaten at Spa-Francorchamps in qualifying by Ayrton Senna’s nephew who was replacing Nick Heidfeld, Petrov commented about the Brazilian driver: « I think the fact that he beat me might be a good thing, but it doesn’t matter. I will drive as I usually do and we’ll see.»
On the other hand, Vitaly Petrov spoke about the current slump in his team’s performance: “We had to stop the development of the car due to the work done in the wind tunnel. That’s why we’ve lost performance since the start of the season,” adding, “We are disappointed because we’ve struggled to qualify in the top 10 in the last three or four races.”
As in 2010, the team based in Enstone, Great Britain is battling with Mercedes GP for the fourth place in the Constructors’ World Championship.
