Sunday: Double retirement for HRT due to brake issues

No HRT driver was able to finish the race today at the Canadian Grand Prix. Narain Karthikeyan and Pedro de la Rosa both suffered from brake issues. Although there is disappointment, they are happy with their performances and are looking forward to the next race in Valencia in two weeks.

Sunday: Double retirement for HRT due to brake issues

Pedro de la Rosa – Abandonment

«It’s a shame because we were having our best race of the season. From the very first laps, the team was telling me to cool down the brakes, and I did everything I could, but even if we had gone a few more laps, the wear was too significant, and we couldn’t see the finish, so we made the right decision, which was to retire. Even though it seems surprising, I’m actually quite happy because we had our best weekend of the year, and I really enjoyed racing in front of the Marussia and just behind the Caterham. I forgot the most important thing, which is that we’ve really improved, and that’s a real satisfaction.»

Narain Karthikeyan – Retirement

This abandonment is a disappointment because we had been performing well from the first day and during the race, I was staying with Pic. But I started to feel that the brakes were beginning to fail, even though I was trying not to push to the limit, it doesn’t help at all. Now, we need to analyze what happened and work to ensure it doesn’t happen again. It’s a shame that the progress shown didn’t translate into a good result, but we look forward to Valencia.
