Sunday: Webber bounces back at Red Bull
Red Bull's weekend hadn't started well. But like the weather, everything eventually sorted itself out. The team leaves the circuit near its factory with 40 points and a victory credited to Webber. The Australian wins a second race this season after his victory in Monaco and remains the only one able to compete with Alonso... for now. Vettel is on the podium and hasn't given up either.
Mark Webber – 1st:
« It took some time to happen [editor’s note: the victory]. The circumstances of the race dictated that. With most scenarios, I should have finished second. But Fernando [Alonso] was within our reach after our last pit stop, and my engineer Ciaron warned me that Alonso couldn’t do better with the Soft tires. I know Fernando is a cunning fox and I believed he was trying to conserve his tires as much as possible, waiting for me to really be behind him to attack fully. As soon as I got within two seconds of him, I felt it was possible to catch up. Everything remained possible when I was able to get within a second of him and open my DRS. I managed to overtake him, and our hard work this weekend paid off. I’m happy for the spectators who got to see a great race. »
Sebastian Vettel – 3rd:
The day was difficult. The beginning of the race wasn’t bad. I lost a bit of time and got stuck behind Michael [Schumacher] but I had a good strategy that allowed me to get ahead. We decided to pit early, and it was a good choice. I would have been even happier if we had won the race but it’s a good team result, I’m happy. We are based just a few meters from the track, it’s the team’s home race, and it didn’t rain. That’s nice. I saw clouds on the way, and the rain might have helped me achieve a better result, but the main thing is that the spectators were able to watch a dry race. The conditions were difficult for them with the rain and traffic, but we delivered today and they are a big part of that.
