Several cosmetic surgeries planned for Maria de Villota in Spain

Maria de Villota, the Spanish driver seriously injured on July 3 in England while conducting private tests for the Marussia team, has been repatriated to Spain to continue her recovery.

Her family, through a press release, announced the repatriation of the driver to the University Hospital of La Paz, in Spain, on July 20th. Repatriation was allowed due to the constant improvement in her health condition. « Her general health condition is good, which allowed her to be discharged from Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge. » confirms the release. « This week, she will undergo surgery by a specialist in cosmetic surgery and will receive neurological and ophthalmological care. »

Maria de Villota, who crashed into the back of a truck during unloading, has lost her right eye in the accident. Nevertheless, the neurological consequences seem to be nil: « From a neurological standpoint, the patient shows no signs of aftereffects and does not require follow-up. The specialists have not given any instructions; however, we will continue to monitor the progress of her psychological recovery in the coming days. »

At 32 years old, Maria de Villota is a test driver for Marussia this year. The driver violently collided with the back of a truck while returning to the pits after a straight-line testing session at Duxford Airport. She was immediately taken to intensive care at Cambridge Hospital after a half-hour of extrication. The cause of the accident remains unexplained. Several theories are being considered, but Marussia, her team, has recently ruled out any technical failure.

It should be noted that the Formula 1 drivers showed great support for their colleague, notably by placing a star on their helmets and cars: a symbol used by the driver since her debut in single-seaters.
