Christian Horner extends contract with Red Bull
Christian Horner does not make the same choice as Lewis Hamilton: he prefers to remain loyal to his team rather than leave for Mercedes.
If drivers often make headlines with transfers, team leaders are not exempt either. Red Bull has decided to sign Christian Horner for several more seasons to thwart Mercedes’ ambitions in this matter.
The information was confirmed to the German daily Bild by Helmut Marko, the director of motorsports at Red Bull. He thus confirmed that Christian Horner would remain in his position that he has held since 2005: « Horner extended his contract with us for several years last week. Unfortunately, Mercedes arrived too late. »
Indeed, Mercedes has begun to change its organization by retiring its competition director, the iconic Norbert Haug. Therefore, they need to find a replacement, for which Christian Horner could have been an ideal candidate, given his past successes. His name was certainly mentioned at the company’s last board meeting.
This option is not the only one to be stillborn since Michael Schumacher has always made it known that he was not interested in a position on the pit wall, especially after some questionable appearances at Ferrari in 2007…
