Vettel and Newey remain loyal despite interest from others

While Ferrari has its eyes set on Vettel for future seasons, Adrian Newey is also receiving offers. However, the dynamics of Red Bull and its operations remain too attractive today for both individuals, who find their satisfaction there.

Vettel and Newey remain loyal despite interest from others

A few days ago, Luca di Montezemolo did not hesitate to express his clear preference for Vettel over Hamilton if Alonso were to leave Ferrari for some reason. But Vettel is not the only one attracting interest. Indeed, Adrian Newey, the technical director of Red Bull, largely responsible for the overall performance of the cars over the last three seasons, has been offered several million to apply his services to a rival team.

With over thirty seasons under his belt, Adrian Newey doesn’t seem to be short of money, having the reputation of being the highest-paid engineer in the paddock. He is also somewhat an object of fascination, moving around only with his notebook to scribble various diagrams, giving the impression that ideas are constantly flowing to continuously improve the car. It’s effective since the cars he has worked on have won more races than those driven by Michael Schumacher. The Vettel-Newey duo amassed 26 victories, 46 podiums, 36 pole positions, and 3 constructors’ and drivers’ championship titles in 101 races. The covetousness is therefore understandable.

The 53-year-old man indicates his wish to stay in place: « Red Bull is a great team to work with. […] I have always maintained that I didn’t want to spend my entire career in motorsport, and especially not in F1, but today I find it fulfilling. […] As long as that remains the case and I’m given work, I will continue ». He then comments on the functioning and management at Red Bull: « In this team, we keep egos and politics to a minimum, and maintain an atmosphere where there isn’t the designation of a single person in charge […] We encourage creativity. And our results show that it pays off ».

Vettel comments: « It is necessary to feel good in the team you race for and it’s essential to have a competitive car. Today we have both. […] That’s where Adrian is brilliant. He gives me confidence and designs world champion cars. It’s an incredible experience to work with him. » He then concludes « I think we can do even better ».
