Accident between Vergne and Pic in the pits: Toro Rosso penalized

During the first wave of pit stops this Sunday, during the [Malaysian Grand Prix](https://www.example.com), the two French drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Charles Pic collided.

The FIA – International Automobile Federation – then announced that it would make a decision on this racing incident after the Grand Prix. The sanction was announced an hour ago, and it is the Toro Rosso team that has been penalized with a fine of $10,000, approximately 7,700 euros. Vergne, who scored a point at the end of the Grand Prix, will therefore be able to keep his point.

In the 7th lap, while Jean-Eric Vergne was already in the pits to change tires, the lollipop man – who signals the driver to exit – gave the green light a little too early. Jean-Eric Vergne thus started without seeing that Charles Pic was arriving to change tires as well. Positioned one pit apart, the two French drivers collided perpendicularly, with the Toro Rosso making contact with the front wing of the Caterham at the level of the front right tire.

Vergne had to be pushed back to his mechanics to allow Charles Pic’s Caterham to finally reach its pit. Both drivers had to change their front wings and lost more than 15 seconds in the collision.

Despite this, Vergne finishes in 10th position, thus scoring a point. Charles Pic, on his part, finished in 14th position.
