Sunday: Marussia fell victim to its tires

By being forced to make four pit stops each, Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton couldn't compete with the Caterhams. Therefore, they couldn't do much better than 19th and 20th.

Sunday: Marussia fell victim to its tires

Jules Bianchi – 19th

This was a really tough race for us today and a tough weekend overall, to be honest. I was hoping things would improve during the race, but we really struggled with the tires. During my fourth stint, the plan was to go to the end, but we had to pit once more. From then on, it was just a matter of finishing and maintaining our position relative to the cars around me. There’s not much more to say. It wasn’t meant to be a good race for us, and we’ve reached the point where we need to implement a new cycle of improvements, which are coming right when we need them, in Barcelona. I thank my team for a busy day of pit stops and for keeping up their spirits throughout the weekend.

Max Chilton – 20th:

« Despite a difficult weekend for us, there were encouraging signs in today’s race. I got a really good start, which I’m pleased about, allowing us to be ahead of both Caterhams for a while. Unfortunately, we struggled with the tires and faced issues early in each of our stints. I’m pleased to have shown that I raced up to the car’s potential today. Even though we weren’t able to fight with those we wanted today, I could at least battle with my teammate. »
