Sunday: Tough fall for both Mercedes drivers
Mercedes set the bar high yesterday during qualifying, but the car was not as performant during the race. With a good start, Nico Rosberg managed his race the best, finishing 6th while Lewis Hamilton finished 12th, more than a lap behind the winner.
Nico Rosberg – 6th:
« I had a very difficult race this afternoon. The start was good and during my first stint, I managed to keep some of the faster cars behind me. From there, I had to run my own race and we started losing places because it made no sense to destroy my tires trying to stay ahead. We didn’t have the pace of the fastest cars today, and there’s a gap growing between the three teams ahead of us, and we need to get back on it. We have a very fast car, but we need to work on it to make it work during the race. »
Lewis Hamilton – 12th:
« A difficult afternoon today and losing places is never fun. We switched to a four-stop strategy during the race, but I struggled with a lack of grip and balance throughout, and we were never really able to get the tires to work well. I know everyone in the team is working very hard, and we need to stay positive. I’m sure we’re going to fix the issue, and we must keep moving forward together to close the gap. I’ll do my best to help and encourage the guys. »
