Sunday: The Toro Rossos were very strong
Luck finally smiled on Jean-Eric Vergne, who finished in a very nice 8th place. As for Daniel Ricciardo, his race ended prematurely when Romain Grosjean rammed him at the tunnel exit. However, the pace of both cars was very good, which is encouraging for the future.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 8th:
« In a way, it was a rather boring race since I never had a clear track ahead of me! But still, it was a very exciting race in Monaco, especially when you score points. In the end, Sutil did a good job in front of me by passing Jenson and Fernando at the hairpin. But I was behind and couldn’t pass because obviously they were blocking me. It was, of course, a good race, finishing 8th and scoring four more points. After a few unlucky races this season, I thought that luck and misfortune always balance out, and today everything went well for us. Moreover, it was clear that our car was very good today, and I set my best lap at the beginning of the race with a lot of fuel since the rest of the time I was in the middle of the pack, which was frustrating since my car was faster than the cars around me. I’m thrilled with this 8th place but hope to do even better in the upcoming races. »
Daniel Ricciardo – Retirement:
My departure off the trajectory was good and I decided to move to the inside because I saw blockages ahead of me and thought it would be the best place to go. But there was a jam and Bottas was able to pass on the outside, which cost me a position. In the first stint, I struggled on the softs and after my stop, I was better on the supersofts, but from there, I got stuck in the pack. Regarding the accident, I could see that Grosjean was fast in the tunnel and he was close, so I defended my line and the next thing I knew was he went into the back of my car. I haven’t seen the footage on TV yet, but I think it was a mistake on his part and it was quite dangerous, even though we’re both fine. This race can be frustrating because I was in a small train, but I didn’t have the pace to go higher. Now, we have to move forward and try to make a step forward in Canada.
