Lotus joins the EMC cloud
Lotus is strengthening its IT infrastructure to aid in the development of the 2014 single-seater. The team has thus partnered with EMC, a global specialist in cloud computing.
We are currently witnessing a rise in the power of team infrastructures in the IT sector. Indeed, with the reduction of private tests before and during the season, teams are forced to conduct numerous computer and wind tunnel simulations. Therefore, having reliable and fast equipment is critical in the operation of a team.
The announcements of partnerships between teams and IT companies are thus multiplying: for example, Tata Communications has become a partner of F1 as a whole and of Mercedes in particular. This is a fundamental trend that is likely to strengthen further in the coming months and years, as it is indeed the very functioning of the team that is being challenged by this type of partnership.
This is explained by Patrick Louis, the CEO of the Enstone team: « It’s a new step forward for Lotus F1 Team as we are going to change the way we manage our IT services, both at Enstone and trackside around the world. By providing us with a convergent infrastructure and cloud computing technology and solutions, EMC will help us accelerate our transformation towards the cloud. This will ensure that as a company, we will be better positioned to maximize the benefits of a secure, flexible, and robust model in which IT is now a service. »
Due to the significant impact this agreement has on the team, it is necessarily long-term. It therefore covers the next four seasons since the coming months will not be too much to implement all the necessary procedures and equipment to ensure that everything functions optimally.
