Jarno Trulli will file a lawsuit against Caterham
At the beginning of the 2012 season, Jarno Trulli agreed to give up his place to Vitaly Petrov at Caterham. However, the team did not fulfill its contractual obligations, and the driver will soon file a complaint to enforce his rights.
When Tony Fernandes asked him to step aside, despite having a valid contract for the 2012 season, he committed to continue paying the salaries owed under their agreement at the time. However, it seems that the Malaysian businessman did not honor his commitments.
The former driver therefore opened up to the Italian newspaper Autosprint: « I will pursue Fernandes because he owes me a lot of money. I agreed to give up my seat and thus ended my F1 career. I was assured that the team would fulfill its contractual obligations. To this day, that hasn’t happened. »
The situation of Jarno Trulli is reminiscent of what Timo Glock experienced a year later: the German had a valid contract with Marussia but was pushed out to allow for the arrival of a second paying driver alongside Max Chilton. Thus, two weeks after his departure, the team announced the arrival of Luiz Razia, before he was dropped even before the start of the season due to the failure of one of his Brazilian sponsors. Jules Bianchi then took the opportunity to secure his place in F1, after Sahara Force India opted for Adrian Sutil.
There is therefore a strong likelihood that an amicable agreement will be reached to avoid a long and costly legal proceeding. On the other hand, there is little chance that Caterham will bring back the former driver as a luxury consultant, as they did with Heikki Kovalainen after a very challenging and underperforming start of the season compared to Marussia.
