Sunday: Lewis Hamilton keeps Mercedes on the podium
After Nico Rosberg's victory in Monaco, Mercedes remains on the podium in Montreal as Lewis Hamilton finished third. His teammate had to settle for fifth place. This allows Mercedes to move up to third in the constructors' championship, ahead of Lotus.
Lewis Hamilton – 3rd:
« The car was fantastic today and I had good grip in the slow corners, but we weren’t quite on the pace of Seb and Fernando. I did absolutely everything I could behind the wheel and we extracted all we could from the car. Obviously, it would have been nice to keep second place, but Fernando was very fast today and it was difficult to keep him behind me. I almost got my place back, but he was a bit too quick. I’m still delighted with this third place, and it was a great points day for the team with Nico’s fifth place. We’ve gained a place in the Constructors’ Championship, which is great for the team and gives us a good boost for Silverstone. »
Nico Rosberg – 5th:
I think fifth place was the best I could do today. Even if my race had been perfect, I was not able to match the pace of the drivers ahead. The team had a tough decision to make at the first pit stop: we were concerned about getting the harder tires up to temperature. So we opted to protect my track position against Webber and Alonso. In hindsight, it probably would have been better to choose the other option since I could have had a longer second stint. I scored good points, and we know there are always areas where we can improve performance. But looking at where we were a month ago, we’ve made great progress, and it was fantastic for Lewis to be back on the podium. We’re moving in the right direction and looking forward to the race at Silverstone, in front of our colleagues from Brackley and Brixworth.
