Sunday: Race to forget very quickly for McLaren
The two McLaren drivers were unable to score any points during the Montreal race: Sergio Pérez finished eleventh, just ahead of Jenson Button. The three weeks before Silverstone won't be too much time to get back on track...
Sergio Perez – 11th:
« It wasn’t the race we were hoping for. We did our best to score some points but it was impossible to do better today. It’s really a shame because the car looked good during our installation laps. But the car didn’t work so well with the super soft tires and we struggled to find enough grip. At Silverstone, I hope we can take a step forward. We made improvements during this race but we didn’t have enough track time to check them on the track. Let’s hope they work better at Silverstone. »
Jenson Button – 12th:
« This wasn’t our best race as a team. It was particularly difficult because this circuit usually suits us very well. In hindsight, we would have been better off starting with the mediums rather than the super softs. During my first stint, everyone on a two-stop strategy pitted before me and overtook me. So, it was quite tough. However, we showed today that, regardless of the strategy, we wouldn’t have been faster. Our car seems to perform better on fast circuits, like Malaysia or China. Therefore, I’m looking forward to our home race at Silverstone at the end of the month. We tried new parts this weekend, but they weren’t really suited to this type of circuit. They should work better at Silverstone. So, I’m confident about the future. »
