Sunday: Caterham had a lot of trouble in Canada

Charles Pic – 18th:

« I made a decent start but, at the first corner, I had to brake early to avoid one of the cars in front of me. So I lost a few places. We switched to mediums for the second stint and they held up well. The car’s balance continued to improve as the race went on, and we stuck to our plan by stopping on lap 37 to be able to do a long stint until the checkered flag. Ten laps from the end, I was able to catch up and overtake Chilton and was instructed to push until the checkered flag. But from there, I couldn’t catch the car ahead. So I ensured to arrive without issues and finished the race in 18th place. »

Giedo van der Garde – retired:

« It was not a good day for me. I would like to apologize to Mark for our accident and I will make sure to learn from the stewards’ decision to penalize me five places for the next race. Sometimes you make mistakes, but the most important thing is to accept them, learn from them, and move forward.

Regarding the race itself, I had a great start, overtook four cars, and was 17th on the second lap. We started with the super softs, and the first set quickly deteriorated. We stopped on the eighth lap to switch to a set of mediums, and my pace in the first laps was quite good. I’m not sure why, but shortly after the start of my stint, the tires began to cool down, and my lap times plummeted immediately. It was quite frustrating because I couldn’t do anything to make them work properly. So, I just had to keep pushing.

On lap 33, I returned to the pits to switch to a new set of medium tires and afterward, I had to stop for my Stop and go due to the contact with Mark. The car’s temperature started to rise immediately after the penalty, and I had to come in once more to check the car. They found a piece of visor on one of the radiators, which caused problems for most of the race.

Shortly after that, I was heading toward the hairpin next to Hülkenberg. I moved aside for him but he turned into me in the braking zone and we collided, and that was the end of my race.
