Sunday: McLaren is overtaken at the end

Jenson Button – 6th:

« There are many things to take away from this weekend. Our pace was quite good. It was nice to battle with cars closer to the front, like the Mercedes. Our lap times compared to the four cars in front were not too bad either and we really needed today’s points.

Unfortunately, the two Caterhams battling in front of me in the final laps probably cost me 5th place. When you’re fighting for a position, you expect the backmarkers to move aside, even if they’re fighting for a position themselves. It’s a shame: those points could be important for us later in the season.

The safety car did not help our strategy, but we were much stronger this weekend than in the previous races. We can be positive: as a team, we didn’t make a single mistake all weekend and got the most out of what we had at our disposal. Overall, it’s a positive day for the team. Now we just need to find more pace in the car.

Sergio Perez – 8th:

« My car performed much better today than yesterday. We had a better pace than we expected. We were able to do a very long final stint and I think we maximized everything today. We should be happy.

After the safety car, it was like the start of a second race. I only focused on conserving the tires over a long stint: the car and the tires performed very well, and we only lost in the last corner. It was difficult to keep Mark (Webber) behind.

We made good progress compared to Silverstone: it was a very promising weekend and I hope we can take another step forward in Hungary.
